Lexington Unveils Redesigned Accessible Center Playground
The $1.49 million renovation of the Center Recreation Complex playground is finished, and the site reopened Aug. 10 after months of construction, with a ribbon-cutting on Sept. 3. Built on poured-in-place safety surfacing, it uses a Universal Design concept intended to let children in wheelchairs and with vision impairments reach all play components, including a wheelchair-accessible merry-go-round, a playhouse and an accessible zipline called the Temple Trolley. It is the first public PlayCore Play & Park National Demonstration Site in New England, a designation for playgrounds that exceed conventional accessibility and inclusion standards.
