Lexington therapist recalls providing crisis support at Logan on 9/11

Karl Weiland, a Lexington resident since 1981, was heading to his job as head of adolescent services at Somerville Mental Health Clinic on Sept. 11, 2001, when he heard on the radio that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. A contact at a Boston trauma center told him to drop everything and get to Logan Airport, where he was sent to an event space inside the airport Hilton with about 100 family members of passengers on the flights that left Logan. He recalled the drive there as "eerily quiet," with almost no traffic and nothing in the skies.
