Non-emergency phone lines down at Lexington public safety and service buildings
Non-emergency phone lines at the Public Service Building, Fire Department, and Police Department are out of service due to an outage, the town said Saturday. Staff are working with the town's vendor to restore service as soon as possible, and 911 remains fully functional for emergencies only. Phones at the Town Office Building, Community Center, Cary Library, and Visitors Center are working normally.

West Nile virus risk rises to moderate in Lexington area
State health officials confirmed Massachusetts' first human West Nile virus case of 2026 in an elderly Middlesex County man, raising WNV risk to moderate in 70 communities, including Lexington. Officials urge residents to use repellent and avoid peak mosquito hours through the end of August.

Residents to pay disposal costs for banned waste items starting September 1
Starting September 1, 2026, Lexington residents will bear the cost of disposing certain banned waste items. The change comes as the town prepares a modernized, automated-cart trash and recycling program for summer 2027, with the Select Board finalizing design this fall and holding public input meetings.
