Wetland appeal delays Lexington High School rebuild, adds $1M+

Twelve residents asked MassDEP to reconsider whether the new Lexington High School should be built as designed because of wetland impacts, and the state has ordered the project team to halt all site work on or near wetlands until it decides. School Building Committee chair Kathleen Lenihan told the Observer that at least $1 million in added costs is now unavoidable because of work missed over the summer. MassDEP plans to walk the property Aug. 27; the project had targeted a late-2026 construction start and a 2029-2030 opening.
