India Independence Day festival set for Hastings Park

The Indian Americans of Lexington will host a free India Independence Day celebration at Hastings Park, 10 Lincoln Street, on Sunday, August 16 from 2 to 6 p.m. The afternoon includes a flag hoisting ceremony, live music and cultural performances, traditional and contemporary dance, poetry, cricket activities, chess, tug-of-war, henna art and local vendors. Organizers say a community fashion show featuring traditional and contemporary Indian attire is among this year's highlights; admission is free and open to all ages.
