Alpha School Seeks Fall Opening in Lexington, Review Ongoing

The Texas-based Alpha School, which replaces traditional teaching with an AI-driven two-hour learning model, wants to open a campus at 92 Hayden Ave. in time for the first day of school this year. Under state compulsory attendance law, it needs School Committee approval; members appeared skeptical after more than an hour of discussion at a June 16 meeting. Superintendent Julie Hackett told the Observer a fall opening is unlikely because the committee's next meeting is not until late August.
