Appeal filed challenging $660M Lexington high school project

Former building committee chair Peter Kelley says the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has received a request to appeal the order of conditions for the town's $660 million high school project. The appeal targets permits for the "Bloom" design, a 60-foot masonry building planned for the center sports fields — flood plain land containing wetlands that was gifted to the town in 1915 for "parks and playgrounds," making it Article 97-protected open space. Kelley, who chaired the committee during the 1990s renovation when the same land was rejected on environmental and functional grounds, did not name who filed the appeal.
