Cambridge drought status downgraded to 'Significant'

State energy and environmental officials last week lowered the Northeast region, including Cambridge, from a Level 3 Critical Drought to a Level 2 Significant Drought, ending a Critical designation in place since late May. Restrictions largely stay: all nonessential outdoor water use remains prohibited, except watering ornamentals and flower gardens by drip irrigation, with hand-held hoses or watering cans potentially permitted. Officials credited above-average July rainfall for improving conditions statewide, but noted Cambridge reservoirs remain low.
