Kendall Square Substation Shell Completed for Eversource
Crews are finishing the shell that will house what developers say will be the country's largest underground substation when it is completed in 2029. The 35,000-square-foot facility is the centerpiece of Eversource's $1.84 billion Greater Cambridge Energy Program, meant to increase the reliability and capacity of the city's electrical grid. Utility officials, who led a media tour July 22, said the added capacity is intended to let residents convert to electric heat pumps and to support EV charging and commercial electrification.
