WBUR reported Saturday that officials are weighing policy on medically tailored meals, the prescribed nutrition that Jamaica Plain nonprofit Community Servings delivers to chronically ill Medicaid recipients. A study published in Nature Medicine found that about 1,900 Massachusetts residents who received the meals for at least three months had 20% fewer emergency department visits and 31% fewer hospitalizations than similar patients who did not. "It actually saves the healthcare system money," said Tufts cardiologist Dariush Mozaffarian, who led the study.
