Dudley Co-op affiliates urge Harvard to preserve the co-op

In an open letter dated Aug. 6, 457 current residents, former tutors and alumni of the Dudley Co-op asked Harvard President Alan M. Garber and other administrators to preserve the co-op, writing that "our home is and must remain a vital part of the campus ecosystem." Harvard College announced last week that it would dissolve the Dudley Community, which handled administrative and advising needs for visiting undergraduates, off-campus students and co-op residents. Founded in 1958 as part of a student cooperative movement aimed at making residential life more affordable, the co-op occupies two historical buildings, and signers say its future remains uncertain.
