Teachers' union presses Cambridge for faster contract talks

The Cambridge Education Association urged the School Committee on Friday to move faster in contract negotiations, calling for higher paraprofessional pay and other changes to working and learning conditions. The union is proposing that the current paraprofessional range of roughly $32,000 to $56,000 rise this year to a $55,000 starting salary and an $84,000 top salary; it says the committee's proposal would not lift starting pay to $50,000 until September 2028, with a $64,000 maximum. The district says the two sides have held more than 17 bargaining sessions over seven months.
