Cambridge mattress recycling now requires resident fee

Beginning July 20, residents scheduling a mattress or box-spring collection through the city's nonprofit partner UTEC will pay $45 per item under a new cost-sharing model, with the city subsidizing the remainder. Massachusetts banned mattresses and box springs from the trash in 2022, making recycling the required disposal method. Residents in buildings with more than 12 units should check with their property manager before scheduling.
