Gloucester Crews Aid Rockport in Four-Alarm Fire
Rockport police and fire were called to 19 Broadway Ave. at about 9:58 a.m. Sunday for reports of a strong gas odor, and found thick black smoke and an active fire in the mixed-use building. Crews struck four alarms and knocked the fire down around 1 p.m. with no reported injuries, though at least two families and commercial businesses were displaced. Gloucester was among 10 departments providing mutual aid; the cause remains under investigation by Rockport Fire and the State Police fire unit.
