West Nile virus risk raised to high in Boston

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced the state's second human West Nile virus case of the year, a man in his 60s exposed in Middlesex County, a week after the first case was confirmed. Citing those cases and cumulative positive mosquito samples, DPH raised the risk level to high in Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Everett, Newton, Somerville and Watertown. Public Health Commissioner Robbie Goldstein said the state is in peak season and urged residents to use repellent, cover up, consider staying indoors from dusk to dawn, and empty containers of standing water outside their homes.
