Charles River Lower Basin under toxic algae advisory

The Boston Public Health Commission issued an advisory Thursday for the Charles River Lower Basin downstream of the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge, where state Department of Public Health staff found cyanobacteria above state guidelines for recreational waters. Residents and pets should avoid contact with the water and any algae along the shoreline, including swimming and other water activities, and dogs should not swim in or drink the water. Anyone who does come in contact with the water or shoreline algae should rinse off immediately.
