Life-sized elephant sculptures now on display along Comm. Ave

A herd of 100 life-sized Indian elephant sculptures has been installed on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall between Dartmouth and Fairfield streets, where it will remain through Sept. 13. The free touring exhibition, called The Great Elephant Migration, has traveled the country since 2024 with stops in New York City, Newport, Miami and Houston, raising money for wildlife conservation. Each sculpture is made from a repurposed invasive plant, Lantana camara, by Indigenous artisans from the Nilgiri Hills in southern India and takes three to four months to complete.
