City contractors to launch overnight sewer and drain cleaning

Weather permitting, City contractors begin overnight sewer and storm drain cleaning tonight, working roughly 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, August 14. Crews will briefly open manholes to clean and video-inspect lines on stretches of Broadway, Washington Street, Webster Avenue, Somerville Avenue, Elm Street and Holland Street, with no roadway excavation required. Residents near the work should expect moderately elevated noise, lights from equipment, and some temporary on-street impacts; work in any one location is not expected to last more than one or two nights.
