Human Rights Report Highlights Neighborhood Inequities

The Somerville Human Rights Commission's 2025-2026 annual report finds that citywide averages mask significant neighborhood-level disparities, with East Somerville, West Somerville and Winter Hill consistently showing higher poverty rates, poorer health outcomes and greater social vulnerability. Drawing on public data, interviews, focus groups and community input, the report names immigrant rights and equitable access to basic needs as the Commission's two highest priorities. It urges city leaders, community organizations and residents to address the gaps through targeted investments and policy action.
