Wood Partners Selected to Redevelop 90 Washington St.

The Somerville Redevelopment Authority voted July 22 to move forward with Wood Partners for the four-acre parcel near the East Somerville MBTA station, which has been up for grabs since January. Wood Partners was the only proposal left after competitor North River Partners withdrew at the end of June, saying it could not meet the project's goals and still deliver investor returns; its updated plan raises the unit count from 324 to 418 and cuts parking from 398 above-ground spaces to 244 underground. Some advisory committee members remain unsatisfied that all 418 units are rentals with no ownership units, and officials hope sale proceeds help cover a $39 million court-ordered payment owed to the site's former owner.
