Legislative Primary Candidates Debate at Somerville High

Will Mbah, Christopher Oates and Paul Ruseau met Saturday in the Somerville High School auditorium for the first and only debate in the 34th Middlesex House race, clashing over an $8.7 billion millionaires tax and housing barriers. The three are running to replace Christine Barber, who has held the Somerville and Medford district since 2015 and is now seeking the state Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Pat Jehlen. With no known Republican or third-party candidates for November, the Sept. 1 Democratic primary is likely to decide the seat. Candidates for the 27th Middlesex House district and the 2nd Middlesex Senate seat also debated.
