Amigos School proposed to move to former K-Lo site

Superintendent David Murphy told School Committee members at their summer meeting that it is "essentially inevitable" that Amigos, the district's one stand-alone pre-K-to-8 school, would be the school moved into the vacant former Kennedy-Longfellow campus at 158 Spring St. Murphy cited logistics, given the size of Amigos relative to the empty building, along with what he called significant instructional and programmatic benefits. Committee members adopted a motion by Elizabeth Hudson and Richard Harding setting a Sept. 4 deadline for Murphy to say when he will deliver formal recommendations and the earliest school year any change could take effect, so families registering for preschool and kindergarten have a timeline.
