CEA and Cambridge schools contract talks remain unresolved

After more than 17 bargaining sessions, Cambridge Public Schools and the Cambridge Education Association still have no contract with the new school year approaching. Superintendent Dave Murphy said in a ParentSquare update that the union's proposals would require an estimated 18% increase to the CPS operating budget in the first year, or at least an additional $175 million over three years, against a fiscal '27 school budget of $293 million. The union, which rallied about 60 members before a June 17 School Committee meeting, points to paraprofessional pay and staffing; Murphy says the committee's wage proposals would raise paraprofessional base pay by nearly 60% over two years.
