Boston Home garden wins Mayor's Garden Contest

The Boston Home's accessible resident garden on Dorchester Avenue took first place in the 30th annual Mayor's Garden Contest, winning the 'Storefront, Organization, or Main Street District' category after a third-place finish last year. Residents and staff member Liz Flanagan plan the back-patio beds together using an app called Planter, growing mint, tomatoes, eggplant, bok choy, parsley and cucumbers, and residents help weed and harvest where possible. The win, claimed at an Aug. 17 gala with Mayor Michelle Wu, qualifies the home -- which primarily serves adults with MS and ALS -- for the contest's Hall of Fame next year.
