State recycling grants boost Somerville businesses

The Healey-Driscoll Administration awarded $1.1 million in Waste Reduction Innovation Grants to 13 businesses and organizations statewide, including two based in Somerville: Hera Materials, which received $100,000, and Second Structure, which received $50,000. The MassDEP-administered program, launched in spring 2025, funds pilot-scale projects with commercialization potential as well as larger infrastructure investments aimed at expanding recycling and reuse.
