Somerville Homeless Coalition relocates, expands adult shelter
The Somerville Homeless Coalition completed its move to First Church Somerville at 89 College Ave. on August 10, raising its adult shelter capacity from 16 beds to 26. The new, fully accessible space spans roughly 4,000 square feet with three dormitory areas, a kitchen, bathrooms and a multipurpose room, plus an accessible bathroom and shower. It replaces the coalition's former shelter at 64 College Ave., which operated for about four decades and was deteriorating, too small to expand and inaccessible to people with mobility disabilities.
