City Approves Final Design for Elm-Beacon Connector Safety Project
The city published the final quick-build design for the Elm-Beacon Connector on August 1, adding protected bike lanes and other traffic safety improvements along Elm Street, Somerville Avenue, and Beacon Street, all identified as high-crash streets for people walking and biking. Implementation is set to begin later this month or in early August, with the majority of work expected to be complete by November. The plan follows more than a year of community engagement, traffic and signal analysis, and testing of emergency and transit operations, and Mayor Jake Wilson tied it to the city's Vision Zero goals.
