City to begin smoke and dye testing of sewer lines today

City contractors Wright-Pierce begin smoke and dye testing of Somerville sewer lines today to identify incorrect connections between drain and sanitary systems, running through August 9. Testing starts in West Somerville, including the Broadway area from Alewife Brook to Teele Square and the High St. area near Dilboy Field. The smoke is nontoxic, non-staining and creates no fire hazard; residents with respiratory problems who are immobile should call (978)-416-8000, and homeowners are advised to pour a gallon of water into each floor drain before testing begins.
