Charter panel recommends five-year city-manager terms
The Charter Review Committee voted 9-0 to recommend city-manager terms of up to five years and a seven-vote threshold to remove a manager. It also recommended barring recent City Council and School Committee members from being hired for the job; the proposals go to the City Council.

Youth boxing program starts today at Clark Avenue School
Chelsea Recreation’s boxing program for ages 10 to 16 begins today, Oct. 1, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Morris H. Seigal Clark Avenue School. Weekly sessions run through Nov. 19 and cost $10 per visit.

Chelsea police propose 90-day electric-scooter enforcement plan
At a Sept. 28 public-safety subcommittee meeting, Chelsea police presented a proposed 90-day initiative with targeted enforcement, device classification, ordinance review and rider education. The department also discussed requiring young riders to complete a safety course before recovering confiscated scooters.

Pezzi Gas faces Oct. 8 licensing hearing
The gas station at 571 Washington Ave. is operating under new ownership without an occupancy permit. The Licensing Commission continued its petroleum-storage license matter to Oct. 8 and warned the station could be shut down if the permit is not filed.

Chelsea is scheduled to open bids today, Oct. 1, for patrol rifles and the trade-in of existing shotguns and rifles. The solicitation was posted Sept. 17 through the city’s purchasing system.
