Orange Line closing Back Bay–Forest Hills Sept. 10

August 26, 2026

Top story

MBTA shutdowns continue, with 5-day Orange Line closure set for Sept. 10-14

A Boston Globe analysis found T disruptions piling up: after closing part of the Red Line, then the Green, and now the Orange, the MBTA will shut the Orange Line's southern half from Back Bay to Forest Hills Sept. 10-14. Under general manager Phil Eng, the T is regularly closing subway lines for extended stretches rather than confining work to nights and weekends, which agency leaders say lets them catch up on years of deferred maintenance faster and at less cost. Riders described doubled commutes, walking to work, and switching to remote days during the current Orange Line stoppage.
