Late-Summer Rainstorms Move Into Greater Boston, Easing Drought

Storms that began the evening of Aug. 20 brought rain across Greater Boston, with up to 2 inches in isolated pockets of southeastern Massachusetts temporarily easing the severe drought gripping Plymouth, Fall River, Cape Cod and the Islands. Forecasters say Friday is the driest day of the weekend, with temperatures in the high 80s around Greater Boston and cooler conditions of 75 to 80 degrees along the coast. A second storm arrives Saturday — timing is hard to pin down, with a dry morning before clouds build — and Sunday is expected to be rainy.
