Charlestown residents push back on Constitution Inn housing plan

Neighbors near the Navy Yard, including the Constellation Wharf managers' board, are objecting to a plan by the YMCA, St. Francis House and the Planning Office for Urban Affairs to convert the former Constitution Inn into 30 income-restricted one-bedroom apartments and 96 units for homeless men and women. Board president Gerry Angoff, a former Boston Health Care for the Homeless employee, said the site lacks nearby medical services for residents with complex health problems, and neighbors say the area lacks the public transportation to support the population. Developers say they will run a shuttle service to take residents where they need to go; a first public meeting with the developers is planned.
