MBTA Green Line shutdown snarls commutes; Orange Line closure next
MBTA crews began a major maintenance and signal upgrade project Monday that suspends large sections of the Green Line's B, C, D and E branches through Aug. 16, with riders near Copley Square shifting to shuttle buses and the fare-free Route 39 standing in for E Branch service. The MBTA says riders should plan for about 25 extra minutes of travel time. The Orange Line will close between Oak Grove and Back Bay from Aug. 20-30 as part of $25 billion in infrastructure fixes.
