Planning Board Approves Healthpeak's Alewife Quadrangle Project
The Planning Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to grant Healthpeak Properties the special permits for its roughly 5-million-square-foot Alewife Quadrangle development, a $4.5 billion project that could take up to three decades to build. Plans call for 24 buildings with more than 2,300 housing units, 2.6 million square feet of office and lab space, 75,000 square feet of retail, 12 acres of open space and $300 million in infrastructure investment, including new streets and a bicycle-pedestrian bridge. City planning director Daniel Messplay said the approval fulfills a longstanding city vision to turn the underused industrial strip into a full neighborhood.
