Cambridge Allocates $500K to Mitigate SNAP and MassHealth Cuts

The City Council on Monday night approved a $500,000 appropriation from Cambridge's Federal Grant Stabilization Fund to respond to federal changes to SNAP and MassHealth, with the Cambridge Community Foundation adding $100,000 for a $600,000 total. The money will pay for outreach, application assistance, case management and community coordination as new rules change work requirements and narrow eligibility for immigrants. The effort builds on a partnership among the city, the Cambridge Economic Opportunity Committee, the foundation and more than 30 community organizations that convened last week.
