Top story
Cambridge, Somerville begin Elm Street bike safety work
Cambridge and Somerville began joint work on Elm Street on Aug. 8, part of the Elm-Beacon Connector project that aims to calm traffic and make crossings at Willow Avenue and The Mix more pedestrian friendly. Somerville is nearly finished bidding out markings and signal work and has started changing signs, with the goal of completing the project by Thanksgiving. The plan adds a separated bike lane from Davis Square to Union Square with a spur to Beacon Street, feeding the raised, separated lane toward Inman and Kendall squares, while Cambridge makes similar improvements on Beech Street between Massachusetts Avenue and Elm Street.
