Nonprofit Launches Free E-Bike Lending Library in Brookline

Community Pedal Power, a volunteer-run nonprofit founded in 2023, has opened a Brookline Hills branch of its e-bike lending library, where residents can borrow electric cargo bikes free for a week. Founder Christopher Schmidt said a ride around the block can't answer the big questions behind an expensive purchase, so the program lets riders fit a bike into their daily routines and routes. The effort began with four bikes in Schmidt's backyard and now serves Newton, Somerville, Roslindale and Brookline.
