BU Students Displaced as Brookline Condemns Egmont Street Building

Health inspectors responded to 56 Egmont Street on Friday, Sept. 18, after students who had raised mold concerns with property management contacted the town directly. Inspectors found strong sewage odors and an active sewage pipe leak in the basement affecting multiple areas of the building; reported gas odors were traced to sewer gas, not a natural gas leak. The town condemned all six units, displacing residents, including Boston University students who say they are now scrambling for housing at the start of senior year.
