BHA Advances 96-Unit Walnut Street Redevelopment Plan

The Brookline Housing Authority will demolish two 1961 buildings on Walnut Street containing 32 apartments it calls "obsolete" and replace them with a single building holding 96 family-oriented affordable units. Newly announced state and federal financing means demolition and construction can begin in 2027, with a second phase planned on High Street. Funding sources include tax-exempt bonds, federal low-income housing tax credits, state housing subsidies, and $7.5 million from the town's Affordable Housing Trust and Community Preservation Act funds.
