Driver rescued after SUV falls into Belmont sinkhole

A driver was guided to safety Sunday after an SUV became trapped in a sinkhole that opened near Holden and Slade streets during heavy nor'easter rain. Police said a water-main break caused the sinkhole. A neighbor said water was pouring from under the road that morning, and about an hour later the road gave way as the SUV drove over it. The tilted vehicle kept the driver from opening the door until he got out on the passenger side after police arrived.
