Select Board Honors Belmont Girls Rugby's 8th Championship

The Select Board presented a proclamation Monday to the Belmont High School Girls Varsity Rugby team for its eighth consecutive state championship, won June 11 with a 36-24 victory over Weymouth in the MIAA Division 1 final at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy. Juniors Adele Goho, Nina Lind, Serena Field and LeeLee Kozelian accepted the citation alongside longtime head coach Kate McCabe. "I've heard of repeat champs. I've heard of repeat, repeat champs. I don't know what the word is for an eight times champion," said board Chair Taylor Yates.
