Rising Costs Loom Over Belmont's School Budget

Two years after voters approved an $8.4 million override, rising healthcare costs and negotiated contracts have left Belmont Public Schools preparing for a tense balancing act in the fiscal 2028 budget. Superintendent Jill Geiser told the Belmont Voice there "continues to be a tension between available resources and needs," and Warrant Committee Chair Paul Rickter said fiscal 2028 is the last budget the town can build on current revenue without seeking another override. Revenue discussions, which cover both municipal and school spending, begin in the fall.
