Army Corps Outlines $10B Plan to Protect Boston Coast

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has released a draft study outlining roughly $10 billion in projects to protect Boston from storm surge and sea-level rise over the coming decades, scoping at least 20 separate infrastructure projects along 16 miles of the city's 47-mile urban coastline. Mayor Michelle Wu called the Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study critical to understanding how to protect inland neighborhoods most at risk. The Green Ribbon Commission projects 10 to 18 inches of sea-level rise in Boston by 2050, and business leaders on the commission say reducing flood risk is an urgent priority.
