Northeastern, City Launch 3-Year Back Bay Fens Restoration

Northeastern University, Boston Parks and Recreation, and the Lawrence and Lillian Solomon Foundation launched a three-year partnership July 28 to restore the Back Bay Fens. Co-op students will clear invasive plants and repair paths in the roughly 100-acre Emerald Necklace park, where erosion and soil compaction along well-traveled paths and riverbanks have taken a toll. Park steward Jonathan Bacdayan cited invasive plants as the biggest ecological challenge facing the Olmsted-designed space.
