New LEXICON art installation unveiled at Boston Public Library

The City of Boston, the Boston Public Library, and MIT's Center for Bits and Atoms unveiled LEXICON, a 23-foot interactive suspended geometric sculpture, in Deferrari Hall at the Central Library in Copley Square on July 27. Designed by MIT researchers Alfonso Parra Rubio and Erik Strand, the piece was created using custom tools for computerized cutting of folded aluminum sheets to form geometric structural cells. It is paired with a free workshop and demonstrates approaches to lighter, stronger, and more sustainable structures.
