MBTA apologizes for Red Line signal delays
August 10, 2026
Top story
Red Line reopening plagued by signal issues and delays
The MBTA has apologized to riders for near-hourly signal issues that have hit the Red Line since its northwest branch reopened July 31 after a 10-day shutdown from Park Street to Alewife. The T says the causes are still under investigation, but that minor adjustments may be needed as trains move over newly upgraded signals, switches and interlockings. Problems began almost immediately after service resumed, including smoke on July 31, and delays have continued on the reopened stretch.
