Save the Alewife Brook advocates urge Select Board to reject pollution plan
In a letter to the Select Board, the Save the Alewife Brook group urged rejection of an MWRA plan, developed with Cambridge and Somerville, that would continue to use Alewife Brook as an open sewer. The group says raw, untreated sewage is dumped into the flood-prone brook when it rains, twice in the past week, affecting the roughly 5,000 people who live in its 100-year floodplain. The letter comes ahead of the town's MWRA presentation to the board about combined sewer overflows.
