Broadway Plaza gets shade sails and benches for summer heat
The Town has installed year-round cooling shade sails and metal benches at Broadway Plaza in Arlington Center, where the built environment can push temperatures 10 degrees higher than forecast. The project drew on Arlington High School student research on bus-stop heat exposure and was funded through a state Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness grant via the 'Beat the Heat: Wicked Cool Outdoors' initiative. It builds on Arlington's earlier 'Wicked Hot Mystic' heat-mapping campaign that identified urban heat islands across the watershed.
