Moulton Reintroduces Road Safety Bill Inspired by Andover Girl's Death

U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton reintroduced the Building Safer Streets Act on Aug. 6, legislation inspired by the 2023 crosswalk death of 5-year-old Sidney Mae Olson in Andover. The bill directs the Federal Highway Administration to update decades-old design rules that have often prioritized vehicle speed over the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, and gives state and local engineers more flexibility in how they design streets. Federal data cited in the announcement shows more than 100 people die in U.S. traffic crashes every day, with pedestrian and cyclist deaths rising.
