Recount Confirms Brownsberger Primary Win Despite City Losses

A districtwide recount requested by both candidates confirmed on September 25 that state Sen. William Brownsberger won the Sept. 1 Democratic primary over challenger Daniel Lander by 35 votes, 12,293 to 12,258. Brownsberger carried Belmont by 2,200 votes, while Lander led in Boston by 1,762 votes, including in Allston, Brighton and Fenway precincts. Turnout in Boston was about 18% of registered voters, compared with 35% in Belmont.
